When I arrived at the hut adorned with sheep skins and I was offered black coffee and trout, I sat on the door of the old kitchen made with traces of “frailejones” observing how a curtain of clouds disappeared before my eyes and allowed me to see the marvellous contrast of the mountains and the green of the lake.

Firts day

Trip by bus Bogotá — El Cocuy — Güicán

We leave from the Transport Terminal of Bogotá, Red Module No. 3 at 7 pm. North highway. We travel through the Department of Boyacá passing through Tunja, Duitama, Soatá, Capitanejo, El Espino, El Cocuy and Güicán.

Duration of the trip: 10 hours approximately

Second day

First camp — Kanwara (acclimatization)

After our trip we shall arrive at the municipality of Güicán where we shall have breakfast and begin our trip in vehicle to Kanwara, approximately one hour.

We shall begin the acclimatization hike towards our first camp at 44000 meters above sea level. This hike is important for our expedition.

Third day

Second camp — Laguna Grande de los Verdes

Once we have had breakfast, we shall raise tents and we shall begin our hike towards El Boquerón de Cardenillo at 4460 meters above sea level. This will be our first pass of altitude and later we will descend to the second camp of Laguna Grande de los Verdes at 4100 meters above sea level.

Hike of approximately 6 hours with assault backpacks, assisted by mules and horses.

We shall install ourselves, rest and have supper.

Third day

Third camp — Laguna Grande de los Verdes

Very early in the morning we go out to fish, afterwards we have breakfast and we leave to the lake of the island. In the afternoon we return to sleep in the lake of los Verdes.

Fourth day

Descend to the Casa de la Parada de Romero

After breakfast and raising the camp, we will make the hike towards the Casa de la Parada de Romero, were we will be picked by a vehicle which will take us to have lunch in Güicán and to a thermal bath in the municipality.
